{"id":242531,"date":"2022-03-04T17:34:05","date_gmt":"2022-03-04T17:34:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.warstoriesukraine.com\/olenakharkiv\/"},"modified":"2022-03-22T13:48:49","modified_gmt":"2022-03-22T13:48:49","slug":"olenakharkiv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.warstoriesukraine.com\/de\/olenakharkiv\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201eDie Besatzer beschie\u00dfen alles\u201c, Olena, 29, Charkiw"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">I&#8217;ve been trying to reach 29-year-old Olena from Kharkiv all day. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Because of the war, the city is experiencing communications breakdowns and the absence of one in the network can mean serious problems. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">I was glad to finally be able to hear Olena&#8217;s voice that evening. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">I felt their exhaustion over hundreds of kilometers that separate us.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">-Hello Lena, how are you?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">&#8211; It&#8217;s going ok.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">She is my childhood friend. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">I&#8217;m having a hard time doing this interview. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Hard to imagine how she gives answers in the basement, where she has been with her little daughter for a week.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">&#8222;There are explosions now too. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The occupiers shoot at everything. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">We live in the city center and there are always explosions. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Almost the whole city is destroyed. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">We were lucky that the bullet didn&#8217;t hit the house but a nearby tree. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">But we still almost do not leave the basement. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">As soon as we go home, sirens wail. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">And we return to cover again\u201d, &#8211; says Olena.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">She and her family have been in the basement since the first day of the war, February 24th. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">No one prepared for war, but hearing the explosions, they immediately understood: they must flee to cover. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">You didn&#8217;t want to leave the city. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The family believed that everything would end in a day or two. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">It was hard to imagine that everything would happen in such a way that residential buildings would also be shelled and that almost nothing would remain of the city.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-240101 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.warstoriesukraine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/40c8552d-2331-408e-bdfe-b6e070de97ea-300x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">\u201cThe first thing I felt was fear for my child. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">It still stays with me. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Why does my child have to sit in the basement while someone enjoys life <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">? <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">\u2013 Olena does not hide her anger. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Your basement is not the worst. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The residents furnished it themselves. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">She hangs out with a lot of neighbors with young children, which helps control emotions. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">You have the food for a few days. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">She bought the children&#8217;s goods for the coming week in the first days of the war. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">At that time you could still buy something.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">In such situations, humanity was expressed particularly clearly, which had not been so pronounced before.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The family helps Olena not to lose heart. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">She has no idea if it would be possible to leave town with the child now. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">She didn&#8217;t want to take any chances and go somewhere under fire. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">My girlfriend hopes for a quick victory of Ukraine, and only if there is another scenario, she will go abroad.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Olena is convinced that the city will be rebuilt if only it remains Ukrainian. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Now she only dreams of peace. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">A week ago she had other plans: &#8222;I dreamed of taking courses and learning a new job. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">I wanted to travel, buy a house, a car. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Of course, together with my husband, I wanted to make sure that the family enjoyed prosperity. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">But one person (Putin \u2013 ed.) destroyed our plans\u2026 The plans of the whole nation\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; I&#8217;ve been trying to reach 29-year-old Olena from Kharkiv all day.
